Somersaults and Dreams: Going For Gold by Cate Shearwater
Third book in a series of three
Fiction based around Ellie and her dreams to become a top gymnast
Set in the UK
Aimed at children aged 8 years and up
For fans of Cathy Cassidy and Jacqueline Wilson, step in to the glamorous world of competitive gymnastics with Somersaults and Dreams.
Written by a gym mum for her Baskerville Gym Club daughter, author Cate Shearwater also spent time with the GB National Squad before writing to ensure her stories stayed as realistic as possible. Normally, much of the gymnastic-themed fiction available is set in the US so this UK-based offering is something of a rarity.
The three books in the series – Making the Grade, Rising Star and Going for Gold – are based around Ellie and her dreams to become a top gymnast. Along the way there are plenty of set-backs, friendships, rivalries and triumphs.
GB rhythmic Olympic and Commonwealth gymnast Lynne Hutchinson classifies the books as inspiring while there are plenty of other big thumbs up reviews from the gymnastic-passionate.
Going For Gold:

But with training harder than ever, rivalries even fiercer and a new coach who seems determined to make sure she fails, Ellie feels as though she has to do whatever it takes . . . including hiding a potentially-career ruining injury. How far is Ellie really willing to go for gold?
