Beginner level gymnasts can use parallettes as a conditioning aid or for practising straddle presses. At a higher level they can be used for things such as pirouettes and press handstands.
Parallel bar trainers – known as parallettes – most often come as a pair of floor-height bars although the lengths you can buy vary considerably. The novice gymnast can use them for basics such as straddle levers or as a general conditioning aid. More advanced gymnasts can do a wider range of practices such as press handstands and handstand turns.
Principally intended to act as parallel bar trainers for boys, they are often quite short, so if you need them for working on handstand pirouettes and top turns be sure to choose ones which are long enough to serve the purpose.
Parallettes are also good for leg raises or other conditioning exercises.
